Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) April 22, 2014

rSmart, a leader in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for higher education, partnered with Stevens Institute of Technology to successfully upgrade and transition their Kuali Financial System (KFS) to rSmart?s customized Amazon cloud services for Kuali and upgrade their Kuali Middleware and Enterprise Workflow from a traditional embedded application to a standalone Platform as a Service (PaaS).

In 2010, Stevens selected the Kuali Financial System to replace their aging legacy financial system and opted to use rSmart?s cloud delivery to control hardware costs, such as the procurement of servers and other IT resources, and to protect critical data.

The value of this choice was almost immediately realized during Superstorm Sandy in October 2012. The town of Hoboken, New Jersey suffered some of the worst impacts of Sandy including power outages and severe flooding. Thanks to the cloud-based environment, critical information and data for the institution was safely stored thousands of miles away in Phoenix, Arizona.

?Experiencing a natural disaster, like Superstorm Sandy, reinforced the need for strategic use of the web and cloud services for communications networks and infrastructure. Our financial system is the first step in a broader effort currently underway at Stevens,? said David Dodd, Chief Information Officer at Stevens Institute of Technology.

In 2013, Stevens partnered again with rSmart to help their team move to a newer version of Kuali Financial System while changing their software and middleware delivery systems. With rSmart?s cloud services for Kuali, the university can expect a highly-reliable, low-cost, and scalable infrastructure that will also provide increased resiliency and redundancy in the event of a disaster.

Additionally, Stevens is now using a PaaS model for Kuali?s powerful middleware and business workflow system, Rice, the enterprise class suite of integrated products that allows for applications to be built in an agile fashion. With PaaS, costs are reduced or minimized with the use of infrastructure services from a single vendor rather than maintaining multiple hardware facilities.

Chris Coppola, rSmart CEO, commented ?By leveraging two emerging higher education trends, cloud services and community developed software, Stevens Institute of Technology is able to reduce administrative costs, increase business agility, and align themselves with the best practices of other leading institutions. We are honored to continue our partnership with Stevens and look forward to supporting their continued success.?
